Nishtar Medical University (NMU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Mustafa Kamal Pasha, passed away due to complications related to COVID-19 on Wednesday.

who had been on ventilator for last 13 days, died of coronavirus, on Wednesday. 

Dr Mustafa Kamal Pasha tested positive for COVID-19 last month and he had been on ventilor for last 13 days at private hospital. 

He was then moved to the Multan Institute of Cardiology (MIC) as his condition deteriorated. His lungs had stopped working. 

Dr Mustafa Kamal Pasha was a famous surgeon who stopped office work when the number of coronavirus patients increased and started performing ward duty. 

His funeral prayers will be offered at Nishtar Hostels Ground after Asr prayer. 

It is to be noted that, over 50 healthcare providers have lost their lives due to the coronavirus in the country. Nearly 5,367 healthcare workers had infected the viral infection by June 30, according to health officials.

2,798 had been recuperated and 2,569 healthcare providers were still under treatment at the different hospitals or were in self-isolation at their homes.

The confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has reached 255,769 on Wednesday after additional cases reported in different parts of the country. 

According to the national dashboard, 2,165 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours.

As per sources, cases in Sindh climbed to 107,773, the highest number so far in the country, while the confirmed infections tally in Punjab stood at 88,045, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cases climbed to 31,001, in Balochistan 11,239 cases reported, Islamabad Capital Territory covid-19 cases climbed to 14,315, Gilgit-Baltistan tally up to 1,708, while 1,688 cases were reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

In addition, the country has recorded 5,386, deaths so far, after 67 fatalities were reported over the last 24 hours.

As per official data, Punjab recorded 2,043 deaths, a highest number as compared to any other province while 1,863 in Sindh, 1,114 deaths were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 38 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 127 in Balochistan, Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 155 deaths and AJK recorded 46 deaths.

According to the NCOC, Pakistan has so far carried out 1,627,939 corona tests and 21,749 in last 24 hours and 172,810 patients have recovered across Pakistan.

Reportedly, 65420 patients have been recovered in Sindh, 64148 in Punjab, 21607 in KP, 7883 in Balochistan, 11327 in Islamabad Capital Territory, 1376 in Gilgit-Baltistan while in AJK 1049 patients have been completely recovered whereas 2,078 patients are in a critical condition across the country.
