Intermittent rain hit Karachi on third straight day and turned many roads and streets into rivulets on Saturday.
The citizens are facing severe trouble due to the rain water as it entered into homes as sewerage nullahs have overflowed.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Army reached the affected areas to assist the civil administration.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) told that the army has kicked-off relief operation in Karachi as rescue teams are active in affected areas with dewatering pumps and necessary safety equipments. Rainwater is being drained out from low-lying areas and several people rescued after being trapped in different places.
In addition, rescue teams have been put on high alert in the wake of flooding or any other emergency circumtances.
On the other hand, multiple people electrocuted to death in rain-related incidents taking the toll to eight.
The downpour hit the city on third consecutive day as the met office had predicted heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in Karachi and Hyderabad on August 7 and 8 (Friday, Saturday).
Cloudy weather blanketed Karachi and the intensity of heat reduced after showers lashed city.
In its weather report, the met office had also warned against urban flooding as heavy rainfall hit Karachi and Hyderabad.
All concerned authorities have been advised to remain alert and take precautionary measures in their areas.
As per the PMD, "Under the influence of this weather system, strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate Sindh, south Punjab and eastern Balochistan from Thursday (evening/night) to Saturday."
Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas during this period may receive widespread rain and thundershowers.
Karachiittes also witnessed prolonged power outages after heavy rain hit city earlier a day.
Many roads, streets and homes flooded with rainwater. According to the weather department, current spell could continue till Sunday.
